Manchester Nepali Samaj UK

The Manchester Nepali Samaj was founded in 2021 with the vision of uniting and promoting Nepali culture, language, and traditions within the community. Initiated by Mr. Karma Lama and team, the organization achieved official registration in 2023, marking a significant milestone in its journey.

Over the years, the group has grown into a vibrant and dynamic community that conducts various cultural events, language classes, and workshops aimed at preserving and celebrating Nepali heritage. With a motto of fostering community spirit, the Manchester Nepali Samaj has been instrumental in bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds, providing them with a platform to connect, share experiences, and maintain a strong connection to their roots.

Its first Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on 22 November 2022, elected an executive committee chaired by Mr. Jiban Gautam.The third General Meeting held on 22 December 2024, elected an Executive Committee chaired by Dr. Damodar Khanal. Under Dr. Khanal’s leadership, the current committee consists of a committed Executive Team of 15 members, 5 Advisors, and 1 Project Director. This Samaj has grown remarkably and involves various social works, including preserving and promoting the Nepali language, culture, and identification. The Samaj is steadily expanding its influence and strengthening its presence within the local Nepalese community and beyond.

Major activities performed and support provided

•  Cultural Education for Children: Offering language, music, and dance lessons to foster cultural awareness and creativity among children.
•  “Nepal Day” Program: A collaborative event held at the Manchester Museum in partnership with Manchester University, celebrating Nepali culture.
• Support for the National Innovation Centre, Kathmandu: Provided assistance to the National Innovation Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal, to help advance its innovative projects and initiatives.
•  Support for Street Children’s Education in Nepal: Offering financial and educational support to ensure that street children in Nepal have access to quality education and a brighter future.
• Festive Celebrations: Organizing cultural performances and activities for Dashain, Tihar, Nepal Sambat, Lhoshar, Chhat, Eid, and Maghi, fostering community unity and cultural exchange.
• Women’s Festival “Teej” Celebration: A vibrant celebration of Teej, featuring traditional dresses, music, and dance performances to honor women’s cultural significance.
•  Didsbury Festival Participation: Engaging with the Didsbury Community Association to showcase Nepali traditions, including traditional dress, flags, and cuisine, at the annual Didsbury Festival.
• Yoga and Meditation Programs: In collaboration with the Global Society for Peace and Spiritual Science UK, offering sessions to promote mental well-being and spiritual growth.
• Spiritual Talks with Veteran Gurus: Hosting spiritual talks, including discussions with renowned experts such as Dr. Chintamani Yogi, to enrich the community’s spiritual journey.
• Support for Earthquake Victims: Providing aid and support to the earthquake victims in Jajarkot District, Nepal, through direct relief and recovery efforts.
• Innovation Talk Program: Organizing a talk featuring Dr Mahabir Pun, sharing insights into the groundbreaking work of the National Invention Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal.
•  Nepali New Year Celebration: A lively celebration of Nepali New Year with cultural performances, music, dance, and community activities to unite and celebrate the start of the new year.
